Hi again, this'll hopefully be the last update to our site in this format, as things are moving along, albeit slowly.

First and foremost, our primary IRC channel has changed from #sting to #stormbit - there's much reasoning behind the change, first and foremost that having two channels open to support largely the same userbase seems pointless, but also to better enforce the new channel rules (available here: https://pastebin.com/Hf3G9PaW).

Secondly, we've picked the software our forums will be migrating to, from XenForo. Namely, it'll be Discourse. We've selected Discourse, as since our forums will no longer require the advanced features offered by XenForo, such as this portal, we might as well replace it with software that offers the same forum functionality - but does it much better. Discourse does...

It's been a while since any posts were made here on the StormBit forums. I'd just like to let you all know that we aren't dead, and the IRC network is very much alive. If you're wondering where all the activity is at, go ahead and point your IRC client at #sting on irc.stormbit.net (or just use Iris, our web IRC client.)

As I'm sure you've noticed, there have been no updates on this site's frontpage!
Now, the reasoning for this is twofold.

Firstly, we're actually working on a new site specially adapted to our needs as an IRC network. It'll be far easier to navigate, to update and will also be blazingly fast (not that the current setup isn't, but the random downtime courtesy of Cloudflare will be gone). This means we'll finally be able to allow anyone to post updates to the site without having to navigate a cluttered interface and deal with BBCode, so that for example ArghArgh200 will be able to post updates regarding his StormBitGames services.

Secondly, and I'm sure this will come as no surprise to the majority, we're very very good at procrastinating. Especially when it comes to really important things. We're talking super-high priority...

Well it's about time for another wall of text to clutter the portal a news post regarding various changes to the services StormBit offers:

First and foremost, "TempCraft" has been reborn under the name "The Depths".
The namechange brings with it a swathe of improvements, as much of the server's infrastructure has been rebuilt from scratch:
The controversial client which was forced upon all users is long gone, and now new players are able to login via the official client (or one of it's many mods, such as SpoutCraft which we explicitly support). Players with existing accounts will need to enable the vanilla client in their User Control Panel on the website.
Everything about the new server has been designed to improve player experience, right down from the new spawn to the new website.

After a seemingly endless week, the TempCraft and StormBit forums are back.
However, both communities now share the same forum-base in an effort to promote unity and also to increase moderation efficiency. (I swear server load wasn't a part of it. )

TempCraft Forum Staff have been moved into their own groups, with the same permissions as before, and vice versa for StormBit staff.
No posts have been lost in the process, and all accounts will be converted to the new database schema at first login. You may need to adjust your signatures, and we appologize in advance for the inconvenience.

Our priorities over the past week (for anyone who is interested) consist of:

1. Optimising the webserver
2. Merging the two forums as seamlessly as possible.
3. Migrating away to a better structured forum software.
4. Finding and adapting a suitable theme (we have also had to repair it quite significantly).
5. Restructuring staff and the forum as a whole.
